The Brandon Cole Foundation
Raising Awareness to
STOP Bullying
Mission Statement
In Memory of Brandon Cole

We have several goals set down for our foundation. We have established a scholarship and award program in Brandon's name, awarded annually, to any young person noted for taking a stand against bullying by being a role model for his or her peers. We will offer various awards to all school levels, from high school to elementary school. The annual award amounts will be dependent on fundraising success. The final submissions will be independently reviewed by four (4) independent judges and one (1) judge from the directors of our foundation.

We proudly awarded $2200 our first year and $2,750 in 2008. The scholarship and award opportunity has been expanded in 2009 to include all K-12 schools in the Province of Alberta. Our fund-raising program up to date has been our Annual Brandon Cole Memorial Jamboree and support from private donations, Olds Jr/Sr High School and Sundre Elks Club. We have also now received our federal charity registration papers. This now allow us to apply for grants from other registered charities. It also, for the first time, allows us to issue taxable donation receipts. This is a big step towards our goal of reaching all students in Alberta!!!

Our long-term goal is to generate a large enough amount to place the money in an endowment trust account. With the help and knowledge of the Red Deer & District Community Foundation we will be able to provide a larger award opportunity to every student in Alberta. By growing the endowment account contributions to an amount large enough to sustain this undertaking, we can ensure this endeavour has continued impact on these areas of concern throughout our province. Once this goal is accomplished, we are able to begin to donate funds to other registered charities.

One of our goals is to maintain this amazing website. To help us achieve this goal, Department Nineteen's Sheldon Durstling has created and continues to maintain the website. We are so grateful for his contribution; he is always so gracious with his time and vast knowledge!! The Brandon Cole Memorial website is designed to reach both teens and adults alike to encourage everyone to take a stand against bullying and the detrimental consequences that ensue. This will be a website dedicated to telling Brandon's story and we will also link to as many websites as will allow that relate to anti-bullying programs and suicide prevention. The Brandon Cole Scholarship and Merit Award Program will be accessible through the website as well.

Brandon was born with a rare condition known as Neurofibromatosis. He was forever known as “The kid with the brain disease.” We will continue to bring awareness to this disease which is incurable, ever-changing and always unpredictable. We will do our best to support such organizations as the Alberta Children’s Hospital and other charitable endeavors that align with our vision for a better Alberta.

We will continue to showcase the amazing talent gathered in Brandon’s honour and we invite everyone to join us as we continue to try to make an impact on this spreading problem. Brandon loved music, and we all wanted a way to honour his love. The Brandon Cole Memorial Jamboree is a culmination of many people wishing to gather in his memory. We knew we must make something of it and try to bring about an even bigger impact on bullying and suicide prevention. Brandon’s story needs to be told, and it needs to be heard! This is our way of making that happen!
