Scholarship Program
Apply Early - This year's deadline is June 15, 2008
We have several goals set down for our foundation. We have established a scholarship and award program in Brandon's name, awarded annually, to any young person noted for taking a stand against bullying by being a role model for his or her peers. We will offer various awards to all school levels, from high school to elementary school. The annual award amounts will be dependent on fundraising success. The final submissions will be independently reviewed by five (5) independent judges. We proudly awarded $2200 our first year. The scholarship and award opportunity has been expanded in 2008 to include all schools in the Chinook's Edge School Division but again the possibility is there for the program to be considerably larger should we continue to receive such a great amount of public support. Our fund-raising program at this time is our Annual Brandon Cole Memorial Jamboree. We have also filed federal charity registration papers, which, if approved, will allow us to apply for funds from other registered charities. Our long-term goal is to generate a large enough amount to place the money in an interest bearing trust account to provide a larger award opportunity to every school in Alberta. By growing the principal contributions to an amount large enough to sustain this undertaking, we can ensure this endeavour has continued impact on these areas of concern. Once this goal is accomplished, we will begin to donate funds to other registered charities. One of our goals is to maintain this website. To help us achieve this goal, Department Nineteen has created and continues to maintain the website without payment. The Brandon Cole Memorial website is designed to reach both teens and adults alike to encourage everyone to take a stand against bullying and the detrimental consequences that ensue. This will be a website dedicated to telling Brandon's story and we will also link to as many websites as will allow that relate to anti-bullying programs and suicide prevention. The Brandon Cole Scholarship and Merit Award Program will be accessible through the website as well. |
